Students may pursue a minor in mathematics with an emphasis in one of the three following areas: applied mathematics, statistics/biostatistics or actuarial mathematics.
Students may pursue a minor in mathematics with an emphasis in one of the three following areas: applied mathematics, statistics/biostatistics or actuarial mathematics.
Allows a student to enhance an existing major that is related to mathematics.
Three options for an emphasis area: Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or Actuarial Mathematics.
ADDITIONAL FEE: $10.00
An introduction to linear algebra. Topics include matrices, vectors, vector spaces, linear transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in MATH 212.
Topics include point and interval estimation, tests of hypotheses, introduction to linear models, likelihood techniques, and regression and correlation analysis. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in STAT 331 or departmental permission.
Students entering the Minor program in Mathematics should meet the minimum university admission requirements (Undergraduate Admission)
Applied Mathematics:16 credits
Statistics:12 credits
Actuarial Mathematics:13 credits
Estimated rates for the 2022-23 academic year. Rates are subject to change. Anyone that is not a current Virginia resident will be charged non-resident rates. That includes international students.
