The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree will provide additional education for advanced practice nurses in advanced diagnostics and practice skills; care of the underserved and increasingly diverse population; leadership, health care advocacy and policy; practice innovation/new models of care; interprofessional practice; and incorporation of emerging care technologies/telehealth.

This course focuses on role expectations for advanced practice nurses; the intersection of models of leadership, advocacy, practice and translational research will be emphasized. Personal strategic planning of the students will be addressed as it applies to disparity issues and vulnerable and underserved populations.
This course will explore the business dimensions of practice including legal, safety, quality and financial. The course will focus on SWOT analysis,developing business plans and community assessments.
This is an interprofessional course that explores organizational and structural opportunities and barriers within healthcare organizations through interprofessional collaboration and teamwork. Ethical issues will be explored. The focus is on the role of the healthcare provider as a leader of their profession within healthcare and on healthcare teams. Emphasis is on meeting the needs of underserved populations.
Students entering the Doctor of Nursing Practice program in Advanced Practice DNP should meet the minimum university admission requirements (Graduate Admission)
Obtain and complete the ODU Graduate application online. Do not send application materials to the School of Nursing. All application materials must be completed by the posted deadline for consideration for each concentration area
Please request three references as indicated on the application form using the forms supplied. The references should be former supervisors and faculty
You will need to request that official copies of all your transcripts be sent to graduate admissions
Submission of a goal statement is required. Your goal statement should speak specifically to the concentration area to which you are applying
Submit a current resume that includes all work and education experience, as well as any scholarship or professional activity
Estimated rates for the 2022-23 academic year. Rates are subject to change. Anyone that is not a current Virginia resident will be charged non-resident rates. That includes international students.
