University Requirements

Academic Requirements

Academic requirements for each program/degree can be found in the University Catalog.

Students are strongly encouraged to use the DegreeWorks degree evaluation tool to track progress toward their degree and consult regularly with the academic advisor to ensure that all degree requirements are being met.

Curriculum sheets for each undergraduate program are also available at the University's web site. Any discrepancies between the curriculum sheets and DegreeWorks should be brought to the attention of the academic advisor, who will work with the DegreeWorks staff to make corrections as needed.

Non-academic Requirements

In addition to the academic requirements of the student's degree program, all non-academic requirements must be completed before the student can be certified as a graduate of Old Dominion University.

Non-academic requirements include (but may not be limited to) the following:

Graduate and Undegraduate Students

  • Required Exit Assessments (see sidebar)

Graduate Students

  • Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Training
(applies to all degree-seeking graduate students admitted or readmitted Fall 2010 and after)
  • For more information about the RCR, see the RCR Information Page.

To determine whether you satisfy the RCR requirement, check your degree evaluation in DegreeWorks. Questions about the RCR requirement should be directed to the Graduate Program Director (GPD) for your program.

Undergraduate Students

  • University Writing Proficiency Requirement (see sidebar)

Assessment results are used to improve student learning and the educational experience at Old Dominion University, and do not become part of students' records.
