PRE-REGISTRATION is open to all degree-seeking students registered in Fall 2023, based on the number of credit hours completed. Pre-registration is available via LEO Online Banner Registration (www.leoonline.odu.edu or my.odu.edu) Monday-Saturday 8am-11pm and Sunday noon-11pm, and at the Registrar's Office Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
An electronic time ticket is required during pre-registration. Students with time tickets may not register earlier than their scheduled time, whether online or in-person.
Time tickets are assigned approximately one month prior to pre-registration. Students are notified by email to the ODU student email address, when time tickets have been run.
Pre-registration and Time Ticketing
NOTE: Spring (and Winter Term)/Summer (and Maymester) 2024 pre-registration is Monday-Friday, October 30-November 3, 2023.
Please review the registration timetable below to see when you may be eligible to register.
Once time tickets are assigned, view in Banner Registration-->Prepare for Registration (remember to select the Spring or Summer 2024 term first). Winter Term (Dec 18-Jan 5) classes are part of Spring 2024 and will show up in the Class Schedule Search for Spring 2024. Be sure to check course begin and end dates when planning and registering.
Students without time tickets will be eligible to register beginning after the last day of pre-registration.
Pre-registration for Military Students
Active Duty, Veterans, Reservists and Virginia National Guard Service Members
Priority pre-registration is available for currently registered (Fall 2023) degree-seeking active duty, veterans, reservists, and Virginia National Guard service members. Preregistration will be based on the student's class (senior, junior, etc.) and will allow registration during the earliest registration time for his or her class. For more information, please click here.
Open registration for all students begins after the last day of the pre-registration period, and all admitted students may register at that time.
No time ticket is required once open registration begins.
Electronic time tickets are required to register for classes during the PRE-REGISTRATION period. Your time ticket tells you the earliest day and time you are eligible to register for classes. All graduate students with time tickets are eligible to register beginning the first day of pre-registration. You cannot register for classes earlier than your scheduled time.
Admitted students without time tickets are eligible to register when open registration begins, at which time no time tickets are required.
Time ticketing is run for the first time approximately one month prior to pre-registration. NO time tickets will be available before then, but you can view the Registration Timetable to see when you MAY be able to register.
Time tickets are assigned only to degree-seeking students who are registered for classes in the Fall 2023 term.
- Time tickets are assigned on the basis of credit hours completed (and transfer hours posted) through the most recent semester attended. Hours the student is currently taking do not count toward the time ticket.
- Time tickets are updated immediately before pre-registration, to pick up any late posted transfer credits (must be posted to your academic history to be counted in the time ticket).
To see your electronic time ticket, after they have been assigned:
- Log in to the secure area of LEO Online or the University Portal using your MIDAS ID and password.
- In the Portal, when time tickets are available you will see a button to view your time ticket.
- In LEO Online click on Admissions, Registration, Student Records.... and click on Registration to go to Banner Registration.
- Select the term for which you want to register.
- Click on Prepare for Registration to view your time ticket.
Check for Holds!
To avoid delays in registering for classes, all students should check for holds in LEO Online or the University Portal (My Status Alerts) and ensure that all holds preventing registration have been cleared. Future holds (holds with an effective date in the future) only display in LEO Online View Holds and are displayed in bold text.
Information on holds, why they are placed, and how to resolve them, is available here.
The timetable below reflects the electronic time ticketing schedule and is based on the number of credit hours completed. In-progress credits do not count toward the time ticket. Be sure to VIEW YOUR TIME TICKET in the University portal or LEO Online (Banner Registration-->Prepare for Registration) once time tickets have been created.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REGISTER BEFORE PRE-REGISTRATION BEGINS AND/OR BEFORE YOUR ASSIGNED TIME TICKET. Students who have no time ticket assigned may not register until open registration begins.
