Dear Colleague:

As you may recall, Old Dominion University left the 2020 General Assembly session with a total of $22 million in new funds for the biennium. These funds, however, were immediately put on hold at the start of the pandemic, along with all other approved new spending.

Following the General Assembly's special session this summer and fall, most initiatives lost their funding completely.

Thanks to the General Assembly and Governor Ralph Northam, $17 million of the original funds ($10 million in FY21, $7 million in FY22) have been restored to ODU. In addition, Governor Northam today proposed an additional $5 million in operating funding for ODU, which fully restores the $12 million included in the original Biennial Budget for FY22.

Additionally, $5.3 million of student financial assistance is designated for ODU in the Governor's recommended budget.

We appreciate the Governor's continued support and look forward to working to maintain this funding through the upcoming General Assembly session.

I wish you and your families a happy holiday season.

Sincerely,

John R. Broderick
President
