Darden College Professor to Speak at International Conference in Greece

Helen Crompton, associate professor of instructional technology in Old Dominion University's Darden College of Education and Professional Studies' Department of Teaching and Learning, will be one of two keynote speakers at the International Conference on Interactive Mobile Communication, Technologies and Learning (IMCL) held in Thessaloniki, Greece, in November.

The conference, in its 14th year, is promoting technology-enhanced learning and online engineering worldwide. Mobile learning and the emergence of mobile communication technologies are a key focus of the event.

Crompton, the director of ODU's Virtual Reality Lab and the Technology Enhanced Learning Lab (TELL), was recognized as one of nine mobile learning experts in the world by the United Nations International Telecommunication Union.

Her presentation, "Mobile Learning: Integration Theories and a Social Ecological System Approach," will discuss concrete approaches and strategies for impactful mobile learning practices and provide a "roadmap for transformative mobile learning approaches."

Crompton's research focuses on technology integration and learning with technologies, such as mobile devices, artificial intelligence and virtual/mixed/augmented reality.

She holds a Ph.D. in educational technology and mathematics education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an M.Ed. in elementary education from Elon University, a P.G.C.E. from Liverpool University (U.K.) and a B.A. in elementary education from Manchester Metropolitan University (U.K).
