Snow Removal 2015

ODU "Heroes" Held Snow Storm’s Effects at Bay

A no-surrender attitude was on display across University departments during recent storm events that grounded to a halt much of the rest of Hampton Roads. With nearly 5,000 residential students on campus, it required a near-Herculean effort, by hundreds of ODU employees, to ensure the community's needs were met.

ODU hosted its annual Model United Nations Conference (ODUMUNC) for regional high schools February, 19-22. The event took over the entire downtown-Norfolk Sheraton Waterside Hotel for three days of intense role-playing. A staff of 60 ODU students led the event that is widely recognized as the best organized, most professional and realistic UN simulation. Their work was managed by ODU junior Sean McGuffin, conference Secretary-General. Despite snow and record-setting cold outside, the 600 attendees from 40 schools were delighted with the experience. The event was organized by Model UN Director, and senior ODU lecturer, Aaron Karp. Speakers included ODU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Carol Simpson; and Dean of the College of Arts and Letters, Charles Wilson. Photos by Chuck Thomas.

When ODU gets snow, the pros are called in to help. And, here, Harlem Globetrotter Handles Franklin demonstrates true multi-tasking form. In truth, Franklin took time out to pose on a snow mound outside the Ted Constant Convocation Center to promote last weekend's Harlem Globetrotters basketball games.
