Across Campus - A Photo Essay

The day of love, Valentine's Day, turned out to be the week of love on ODU's campus thanks to the philanthropy of various University organizations. The M-Power Peer Education Network, from the Woman's Center, made Valentine posters for victims of domestic and sexual abuse. Delta Zeta sorority members sold origami roses with a Hershey Kiss in the middle to benefit organizations that help chronically ill children and the hearing impaired. And Delta Sigma Lambda members sold box candy and roses for Relay for Life, while Sigma Alpha Iota raised money for SAI Philanthropies Inc. Photos by David Hollingsworth & Chuck Thoma

Christal Rabalais polar plunge 15Photo by David Hollingsworth

Christal Rabalais characterized her recent dip into the frigid Atlantic Ocean as "exhilarating!" We aren't so sure, but the cause was certainly worth it. Rabalais, who is ODU's International Programs front desk manager, braved the icy waters for the annual Polar Plunge Winter Festival which benefits Special Olympics Virginia. The event was held on Feb. 7, in Virginia Beach. Rabalais raised $1,545 for the charity event and said contributions she received from the ODU community helped in exceeding her goal.
