In addition to the many academic-related events on campus in recent days, including Tuesday night's Emancipation Proclamation anniversary program, basketball returned to the Ted, as new men's coach Jeff Jones and women's coach Karen Barefoot led their charges to start the 2013-14 campaign.

Tim Seibles, associate professor of English, opens the program Tuesday night commemorating the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, sponsored by the ODU Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity. Representatives of the Delta Sigma Lambda-Glenny Burns Scholarship – Martha Frost, left, and Karen Rice, right, are joined by scholarship recipient Karen Brown at the Hugh L. Vaughan Scholarship Luncheon on Tuesday. The annual event offers an opportunity for scholarship donors and recipients to meet. Created in 1976, the Delta Sigma Lambda-Glenny Burns Scholarship assists a female undergraduate student 25 years or older who has attended college for a minimum of one year.
