Homecoming Parade 2013: A Photo Essay

ODU's Homecoming Parade on Saturday afternoon featured everything from student floats, to marching bands to Shriners in funny cars. And, of course, ODU administrators and coaches joined in the fun, along with members of the Homecoming Court. ODU's week of Homecoming events was capped later in the day, when the Monarchs came from behind in the final minutes to defeat Liberty University on Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium.

October has already proved to be an eventful month at Old Dominion and, following a brief lull from the upcoming fall holiday, the campus calendar will be full once more. Offered here is a sampling of photos taken at university events over the past week and a half.

A Picture is Worth...

Audience members who attended the Literary Festival presentation by D.T. Max, right, and Blake Bailey Tuesday afternoon not only gained insight about the craft of the two writers, but also were entertained by the two friends' introductions of each other. A staff writer at The New Yorker, Max is the author of "Every Love Story Is a Ghost Story: A Life of David Foster Wallace," a 2012 New York Times best-seller. Bailey, the Mina Hohenberg Darden Professor of Creative Writing at ODU, is the author of major biographies of writers Richard Yates and John Cheever. The latter won the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Parkman Prize and was a finalist for the Pulitzer. His most recent book is "Farther & Wilder: The Lost Weekends and Literary Dreams of Charles Jackson.
