Bird Survey Aims to Preserve Migratory Habitats

They look too young to be your stereotypical birders, but this team of researchers led by ODU graduate student Andrew Arnold is busy on a crisp September morning toting binoculars and clipboards through the Hoffler Creek Wildlife Refuge in Portsmouth looking for evidence that could help preserve habitats for migrating songbirds along the mid-Atlantic coast.

Activity Hour: A Photo Essay

Activity Hour on Thursday featured inflatables, rides and other events, all designed to help students get into the spirit of Homecoming, whose theme this year was "ODUniverse - Journey to the Blue Galaxy."

Felicia Mfamana points to herself in a picture from the "The Nevergiveups" photo exhibition, which opens today in the Goode Theatre lobby. The Nevergiveups is a group of grandmothers within the Grandmothers Against Poverty and AIDS organization who live in Khayelitsha township, near Cape Town. Mfamana and Thelma Nkone, left, are among five South African visitors who are bringing "The Nevergiveups" photo exhibition and book launch to campus. The exhibition is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 7-11, with a reception scheduled from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 9.
