Armistead D. Williams, Jr.

Dr. Armistead D. Williams Jr. was appointed to the Board of Visitors on February 24, 2020 by Governor Ralph Northam. He currently serves on the Board's Executive, Academic & Research, Governance, and as Chair of the Audit, Compliance & Human Resources Committees.

Dr. Williams, a neurology specialist with Neurology Consultants of Tidewater, has focused on the science of the brain, spine and nerves and the care of people afflicted with neurological illness for four decades. He is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Virginia Medical School.

He performed a two-year internal medicine residency at Medical College of Virginia and his Neurology Residency at the University of Virginia. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He was president of the Sentara Norfolk Hospitals medical staff and was Medical Storke Director at Bon Secours DePaul Hospital when it became the first comprehensive stroke center certified in Hampton Roads. He also has served as medical stroke director at both Sentara hospitals in Norfolk.

In addition to the Old Dominion University Board of Visitors, Dr. Williams serves on the board of Westminster Canterbury of Virginia Beach.
