Windows 10 Upgrade to Version 21H1
Help documents
As Windows 10 continues to evolve, we work hard to release updates and make the latest features available. Many computers on campus have been upgraded numerous times recently and need a fresh start, so with this next update, you'll get a clean install of Windows 10 -- either on your existing computer or on a new computer if you are due for a lifecycle replacement.
Your TSP will help you navigate this process as painlessly as possible.
New features
- New workstation login: Log into your computer with your email address (not your MIDAS ID) and MIDAS password.
- A persistent experience: No matter what computer you log into, the following services and their settings will "follow" you automatically:
- Onedrive
- Microsoft Edge
- Microsoft Office
- Windows desktop settings
- Vastly improved self-service software installations: The new Company Portal allows you to install applications on your ODU-managed computer and allows ITS to publish applications, web links and other configurations.
- Better experience when teleworking
Preparing for your upgrade
We're working to make this update as seamless as possible, but there are a couple of things you can do to ensure a smooth transition:
- Store your files in OneDrive (never your local hard drive).
University employees must be careful to protect confidential or restricted data. Before using OneDrive to send, store or share University information, review the regulated data storage matrix. - Begin using the new Microsoft Edge browser, and turn on the backup features to save your bookmarks.
- Collect all of your software and make a list for your TSP.
