What You Need to Know About Federal Requirements for Data Management and Sharing

Federal research funders are increasingly asking for data sharing as part of grant funding, in order to enable research to be more impactful and reproducible as well as to prepare researchers for better management of their data. As of January 2023, all NIH grants that produce scientific data now require Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Plans. These plans have specific questions that funders expect will be addressed by the PI. It is likely that other federal funders will be asking the same questions.

The University Libraries invite you to a workshop to learn about changes in federal data management plan requirements since the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) issued their Memorandum "Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research." Specifically, see how the NIH DMS Plans intersect with the overall proposal process and learn the six elements to address in a DMS Plan.

Dr. Nina Exner, VCU's Research Data Librarian, will speak to ODU and EVMS staff, faculty, and researchers on this important topic.

Session for ODU/EVMS Faculty & Researchers: Wednesday, April 19, 2-3pm. Zoom RSVP: bit.ly/dmsplan-nih-fac

She will offer an additional session for library and office of research staff at ODU and EVMS who need to know how to help faculty and researchers with their data management planning.

Session for ODU/EVMS Library & Research Office Staff: Tuesday, April 18, 11am-12pm. Zoom RSVP: bit.ly/dmsplan-nih-staff
