ODU Graphic Design Students were winners at the Richmond Ad Club Show!

Graphic Design in the News!

It has been an exciting year for the graphic design program and its students. The list below briefly highlights the recognition graphic design students have received for their work the 2016-2017 academic year.

April 2017

The Richmond Ad Club

Since 1960, the Richmond Ad Club has brought together professionals from across the industry, from interns to agency CEOs, copywriters to media planners. Every year, they host a juried competition for professionals and students. This year, graphic design students won big at The Richmond Ad Club Show. Rachael Round took 2 golds (the only two awarded), Mandi Vollmer a silver, and Galina Karasoy and Alex Salas both took home a bronze. All in all, a great achievement in a show typically dominated by students from VCU.

Photographer’s Forum Magazine

Christina Vreeland was selected as a finalist in an annual photography contest sponsored by Photographer's Forum Magazine.

March 2017

National Student Show and Conference

In 2004, The Dallas Society of Visual Communication created the National Student Show and Conference, the nation's largest competition and conference for graphic design students. This year, judges selected 120 entries out of around 1,200 submissions (roughly 10%). Rachael Round got 3 pieces (poster designs) into the show. The work was on display during the 3-day conference, which hosts around 400 students. It's exciting to see ODU student work included in such a prestigious show.

February 2017

American Advertising Awards

The American Advertising Awards is the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition, attracting over 40,000 entries every year in local AAF Club (Ad Club) competitions. The Addy's competition has a unique system, which includes 3 judging levels (local, regional and national). If a gold or silver is awarded, it moves to the next level. Julia Drake and Holli Turner both took home Silver Addys for their design work at the American Advertising Federation of Hampton Roads competition. We wish them the best of luck as their work moves to the regional competition.

Undergraduate Research Symposium

Ross Allen, Darius Page and Mandi Vollmer presented work at the Undergraduate Research Symposium in the Learning Commons of the Perry Library at ODU.

2016 AIGA Blue Ridge Flux Student Design Competition

The largest collection to date of ODU student design work was accepted into the 2016 AIGA Blue Ridge Flux Student Design Competition. Established in 2006, Flux celebrates the best creative work produced each year by undergraduate and graduate students from across the country.
